A Perfect Day in Hillcrest Village with Ben Latchford
If you’ve popped into our sales centre, then you’ve probably noticed the butcher shop next door, Roast. If you’re already well acquainted with the Village, then you’ll probably know that we love Roast and everything they offer! We featured the local fine foods and butcher shop on the blog a few weeks ago, and we also served delicious burgers from Roast at our big groundbreaking event a few months ago.
Today, however, we’re going to chat with Ben Latchford, the owner of Roast, and find out about his perfect day in Hillcrest Village.
Though Ben can usually be found at his shop, he did share with us some of his favourite shops and local small businesses in the neighbourhood. Ben’s mornings often start with a tea and a blueberry scone from Baker & Scone, another local favourite of ours.
With a two year old son at home, there needs to be some toys from time to time! Ben checks out EcoExistence, where you will find a great selection of sustainable lifestyle products (including things for your home and toys) or Playful Minds, another local toy shop. Before you know it, it’s time for lunch – Ben likes to frequent recently opened Sea Witch Fish and Chips or a classic Hillcrest Village gem, The Stockyards (home to some of the best sandwiches ever).
Before the day is through, Ben will go and pick up coffees from ZAZA Espresso Bar for his team back at Roast, and maybe run some errands at Sam’s Hardware. When the work day is done, it means it’s time for drinks with the Roast team – they often frequent The Piper’s Pub & Grill or Ferro’s.
Soon it’s time for dinner and Ben’s wife loves Indian food, so Pukka it is! Usually Ben grabs some takeout from our favourite Indian restaurant and heads on home.
Sounds like a great day Ben! Thanks for chatting with us.
